Antarctica Exhibit - Christchurch, New Zealand - May 30, 2012

Sisters Turner, Neider, Chelius, Nation
We went to the Antarctica Center and were able to go in the indoor polar room to experience the cold temps.  The room is chilled to -5 degrees C.  We braved the wind chill machine dropping the temp. to -18 degrees C.  The wind of an Antarctic storm blows in every 30 minutes.  Need I say that I only stayed for a few minutes.  Sister Neider and I layered about 3 coats each I think!  Very cold!

As seen below, we rode in an all terrain amphibious antarctic vehicle which was a simulation of what it would be like to ride across an ice pack on arctic terrain.  We were required to wear a seat belt and note the hand straps hanging from the roof of the cat which came in handy!!!!  We rode over mounds, a crevasse, across open ground and through a pond of water.  We were bouncing all over the place.  No one could talk for laughing and squealing (girls) so loud.  It was hilarious and so unexpected as to the intensity of the ride.  Noisy and rough for sure!  These pictures were the calm before the storm.  Sorry I couldn't take pics during the ride.  We hung on for dear life!
